Brian Murphy
Brian, a Chartered Accountant, is an experienced Business Director, Director of Finance and leader of company restructuring. Prior to joining Lightfoot in October 2003 he was Director of CRM Implementation at Centrica plc leading the group’s £450m CRM investment programmes. From 1994 to 2001 he had been a Director of British Gas’ energy retail business responsible for customer operations; significantly reducing costs, improving performance and customer retention. Including replacing forty legacy billing systems with one, restructuring operations from thirty-two offices to eight to a shared service infrastructure and deploying electricity capability. Previously he was Director of Finance & Planning for the Exploration business and Chief Accountant at the time of privatisation of British Gas.
David Anker
David, with a doctorate in Mathematics, has over 25 years experience in deploying information technology and software solutions across banking, insurance and the Public Sector, has held senior management positions at major IT corporations such as Computer Sciences Corporation and LogicaCMG, and has started highly successful businesses for these companies in the US, Mainland Europe and the UK. Before founding Lightfoot, he created signalsfromnoise.com, a consulting firm specialising in performance improvement. It was as a consultant that David and his partner, Roger Sym, developed the underlying signals from noise approach based on developing the appropriate set of balanced KPIs, and adopting (and in particular adapting) Statistical Process Control (SPC) techniques to their measurement and assessing/improving performance. This approach has been applied successfully in a number of organisations including the Automobile Association, Strategic Rail Authority, Office of the Rail Regulator, British Telecom, Balfour Beatty, RAC and others. Recently, David has been spearheading Lightfoot’s work in the Public Services, in particular the UK Police Service as the approach and software are unique in providing coherent, consistent and sustained improvement in an environment dominated by Government targets.
Tim Shepheard-Walwyn
Tim has over thirty years experience in regulation and risk management in the financial sector with a particular focus on Enterprise Risk Management and Operational Risk. Prior to joining Lightfoot, he was Group Risk Director and a member of the Group Executive Committee at Barclays plc where he was responsible for the design and implementation of a new risk framework for the Group. From 1987 to 1999, he worked for Swiss Bank Corporation and UBS in Switzerland in a variety of operational and risk management roles including a period as Chief Operating Officer in Hong Kong. Following the merger between Swiss Bank Corporation and UBS in 1997, Tim was responsible for establishing the risk management and governance framework for the merged bank. Tim started his career at the Bank of England where he worked in both the Economics Division and in Banking Supervision.
Roger Sym
Roger is a Chartered Statistician who has had broad experience of applying his subject, particularly in the service and construction sectors of industry and in environmental management. He works as the statistical expert on multinational, EU-funded, research programmes where he plays a leading role planning the projects, designing experiments and reporting and presenting the results. Roger received his Ph.D. in statistics from Imperial College in 1969 and is a Fellow of the Royal Statistical Society. He represents the UK on the ISO/TC69, the committee that develops ISO standards on statistical methods and is chairman of the BSI committee SS/6, responsible for standards on precision of test methods, measurement uncertainty, proficiency testing, limits of detection, and related topics.
Paul Turnbull
Paul, a software engineer graduate from Imperial College London, is an experienced software engineer and entrepreneur having built his own software company, Deltascheme, during the latest 18 years. Over the life of Deltascheme, Paul has steered the company through the various waves of IT initiatives - solving the range of technical problems encountered in making most of the key business software applications deployed over the last 15 years including ERP, CRM, e-commerce, dot-com, BPM, knowledge management and business intelligence. The very simple values of honesty, integrity and old-fashioned hard work lie at the heart of his successful and growing business, which has an enviable reputation in the industry for quality work and a loyal workforce.
Les Halpin
Les Halpin began his career working for Barclays Bank, British Gas and Lloyds Bank International. He then joined N P Record Ltd, a specialist currency management company. During his employment with the company, Les served in numerous capacities within the organisation culminating in his appointment as Chief Executive. Les was involved in the management buy-out of Integrity Treasury Solutions in 1996 and subsequently worked with Jan Szydlowski at the company prior to its sale to SunGard, Inc. He spent a number of years based in Chicago focusing on sales and marketing for the business in the Americas and internationally. Les joined Lightfoot Solutions Ltd as Sales & Marketing Director in April 2007, bringing his experience of growing entrepreneurial companies and building strong client relationships to the business. Les has been an active investor in a number of private companies including Record plc (floated on the LSE in 2007), RDF Media plc (floated on AIM in 2005) and Unipower Solutions Ltd. Les originally gained a first class degree in statistics from Exeter University which he then followed with an MBA in Finance from City University Business School.
Jan Szydlowski
Prior to joining Lightfoot in 2007, Jan Szydlowski was European Director of Integrity Treasury Solutions based in the London office. His areas of expertise lie in building and running service companies which market, implement and support business application software systems, as well as several years solid experience in business strategy and general business management consultancy. During his 30 year career, Jan has worked for 3 leading financial application software system companies, all of which grew to become FTSE or NASDAQ quoted companies. After university and a period with Voluntary Service Overseas, Jan began his career with McLintock, Mann and Whinney Murray, as a financial and computer systems consultant. Jan is a Fellow of the Institute of Directors, the British Institute of Management, the Institute of Management Consultants and the British Computer Society. He has an Honours degree in Electrical Engineering (Systems) from Brunel University, and an MBA in Finance from the City University Business School in London.
